CogAtTesting

We want to let our families know that CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) will be administered soon at McKissick Academy of Science and Technology. The CogAT measures students’ reasoning abilities in three key areas—verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal skills. These abilities are important because they give us a deeper look at how students learn, problem-solve, and process new information.

Why CogAT is Important

CogAT results are used, along with other data, to:

  • Help teachers better understand each student’s learning profile.

  • Support instructional planning in the classroom.

  • Identify students for enrichment and gifted programs.

What Families Should Know
  • Testing will take place during the school day.

  • Please make sure your child is well-rested and has a good breakfast on testing days.

  • Encourage your child to do their best, but remind them that this test is simply a tool to help us learn more about how they think and learn.

Supporting Your Student

You can support your child by:

  • Ensuring consistent attendance on testing days.

  • Offering words of encouragement.

  • Keeping their evenings before testing calm and free from late-night activities.

We’re excited to see how our students shine during CogAT testing!
