Our 1st grade students at McKissick Academy of Science and Technology have been busy learning, building, and giving back through their latest Project-Based Learning (PBL) project—the “Bite Box.”
Inspired by community food boxes, the Bite Box is designed to support families in need by providing a place where community members can both donate and receive food items. The guiding slogan for the project is simple, yet powerful:
“Take what you need, leave what you can.”
Through this project, our students learned about community service, empathy, and responsibility. They worked together to design, assemble, and construct a writing piece to inform our community. This hands-on project gave students the chance to apply STEM skills, practice collaboration, and see firsthand how their efforts can make a real difference.
We are so proud of our 1st grade students and their teachers for completing such a meaningful project. The Bite Box stands as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact.
Thank you to our families and community members who continue to support our students in their learning journeys. Together, we are helping our children grow as leaders, problem solvers, and compassionate citizens.
