McKissick Academy of Science and Technology (MAST), a Pre-K to 5th grade magnet school in the School District of Pickens County, has officially earned Cognia STEM Certification, joining an elite group of elementary schools in South Carolina and across the nation recognized for excellence in science, technology, engineering, and math education. MAST is now one of only a few elementary schools in South Carolina, and among just over 400 worldwide, to meet Cognia's high standards for STEM excellence. Cognia's STEM Certification is awarded only after a rigorous evaluation process, including virtual visits, interviews, and evidence-based reviews that assess a school's ability to deliver high-quality, integrated STEM instruction across all grade levels.
"From their very first day in kindergarten, our young learners explore, experiment, question, and dream big. This STEM accreditation is a testament to our teachers' passion and our students' curiosity, who remind us each day that brilliance starts small," said Principal Heather Touchberry.
"This is more than a badge of honor," said Superintendent Dr. Danny Merck. "It's proof that our district's commitment to visionary, future-focused innovation is making a real difference right here in our elementary classrooms."
Through STEM project-based learning, real-world problem solving, and strong community partnerships, MAST prepares students for the future with curiosity, confidence, and creativity. This national recognition marks a proud milestone in the school's journey since becoming a magnet school and reflects dedication to quality STEM teaching and learning and the goals of the district's Innovate'28 Strategic Plan.

Shark Families: Tomorrow we will have our final Shark Swag party for the year: Firetruck and Foam. Students who are participating should bring a change of clothes, shoes that can get wet, and a towel. We are looking forward to celebrating the hard work of our Sharks who earned 25 Swag Tags!

Shark Families: Just a reminder that our PTO beach themed skate night is tonight from 6-8 at Roller Time in Easley. Admission is $8 and children must be accompanied by a parent at all times. (2) Tomorrow is Field Day. Students need a change of clothes. Also, Concessions will be sold during field day. All items will be priced between .50 and $2.00.
Shark Families: Just a reminder that the Ladies We Love Breakfast is tomorrow morning in the cafeteria from 7:20AM-8:00AM. Minimal additional slots will be paid for at the door.
Shark Families: Just a reminder that 4th grade science testing will be tomorrow 5/13/2025. Lets make a huge effort for all 4th grade students to be present tomorrow. If your child is here we will have a small prize for them.
Shark Families: 2nd grade only: Swim lessons will be complete this week. Please note that the date for Mrs. Small, Mrs. Kendall, and Mrs. DiTullio’s classes has been changed to tomorrow 5/15, Thursday. We hope your child has enjoyed learning this important life skill!

Shark Families: Just a reminder that PTO will be selling Chick-fil-A in the carline tomorrow morning 5/8. Biscuits are 4 dollars and you can pay cash or the PTO Venmo. We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for SCReady Math Testing.
Shark Families: PTO will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts in the carline tomorrow (5/6). Donuts are $2 a piece or 10 dollars for a dozen. Krispy Kreme orders are also due tomorrow 5/6!
